Wordle is a popular web-based word game developed by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle. The game gained significant attention for its simple yet captivating premise: players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with a new puzzle released every day. Wordle became a global phenomenon in late 2021, largely driven by the ability for players to share their results in the form of emoji squares on social media platforms like Twitter. This feature contributed to the game's rapid spread, boosting its player count from just 90 in early November 2021 to over 300,000 by the beginning of 2022.
Originally created as a fun pastime for Wardle and his partner, Wordle was shared with close friends and family before its public launch in October 2021. The game's simple mechanics and universal appeal led to the creation of numerous clones and adaptations, including versions in different languages. The New York Times Company acquired Wordle in January 2022 for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, integrating it into its games section the following month. Wordle's ad-free, straightforward design has kept it educational, entertaining, and accessible for millions of players worldwide.
The rules of Wordle are straightforward and easy to follow. Players have six chances to guess a hidden five-letter word. After each guess, feedback is provided through colored tiles:
Green indicate that a letter is in the correct position.
Yellow show that a letter is in the word but in the wrong position.
Gray signify that a letter is not in the word at all.
The objective is to use hints from each attempt to make progressively better guesses until the correct word is found or all six attempts are used. Wordle's daily challenge format ensures that all players work to solve the same word each day, fostering a sense of shared experience and friendly competition.
If you enjoy word puzzles, Wordle might just become your next daily ritual!

Some good starter words that can give you helpful hints because they contain the most frequent letters:
Use different letters. With 3 words you can use 15 different letters. Here a set of 3 words that contain different letters:
Hard mode is a bit more challenging. You can only use words that match previously revealed letters. For example, if you know that the word contains "E" and "L", you must pick words that contain both "E" and "L".
Revealing many letters quickly can sometimes trap you. For example, there are seven words that match the "s?ell" pattern: stell, snell, smell, shell, spell, skell and swell. With so many similar options, it can be difficult to guess the right word in time.
Getting all gray letters is great - it means you've eliminated 5 letters and can try five completely new ones. However, this doesn't necessarily mean you should use words with the rarest letters. Remember that eliminating rare letters doesn't narrow down the possibilities as much.
Yellow letters are particularly useful since they give you more flexibility. Take the letter S for example - there are around 3,600 words with the letter S in our dictionary. If you use a word starting with "S" and it turns green, you're limited to about 1,600 words that start with S. But if you place S in the second position, like in word "aside", you'll likely get yellow. Only 5% of words with S have it as the second letter, yet you can still use almost any word containing S. A green S in second position narrows your choices from 13,000 to just 160 words it can be a huge win too.
Let's peek behind the curtain! We created this solver to be your helpful friend in playing Wordle - not to take all the fun away by solving it instantly. It's designed to make the game more enjoyable by providing smart recommendations and maybe even teach you some new words along the way!
The solver works differently depending on which mode you're playing. In easy mode, it looks through our entire word collection to make suggestions. In hard mode, it only suggests words that follow Wordle's stricter rules about using the letters you've discovered.
When picking words to suggest, the solver looks at which letters appear most often in possible answers. It pays special attention to letters we don't know about yet, rather than ones we've already figured out.
Each possible word gets a friendliness score based on how helpful it might be. Words that use common letters tend to score higher than words with rare letters. Words that repeat letters usually score lower since they don't help us learn about as many different letters.
From all the possible words, we pick from the top third (making sure you always have at least 10 choices). Then we randomly select one of these top-scoring words to suggest to you.
This approach means you'll get suggestions that are really good at uncovering new information about the answer, but with enough variety to keep things interesting and fun!
Don't love the suggestion? No problem! You can always click the refresh button for a new suggestion, pick any word from the matching list, or type in your own word if you have a hunch about what might work.
